BIKESAFE - SKILLS THAT COULD SAVE LIVES
Ninety-one motorcyclists were killed or seriously injured on Suffolk's roads in 2007.
As part of a commitment to reduce the numbers of motorcycle related collisions across the county's road network, Suffolk Constabulary is running a series of 'Bikesafe' motorcycle workshops aimed at all riders who want to improve their skills to become better and safer riders.
Bikesafe is a nationally recognised police-run biking initiative focusing on education, and aims to improve rider awareness and rider ability.
The series of two-day workshops start on Friday 28 th March, a time when many motorcyclists will be considering taking their bikes out for the first time this year.
Pc Kevin Stark, from the Roads Policing Unit, commented: "No matter how experienced or careful you are, advanced rider training will improve the way in which you ride and increase your chances of riding safely, thus avoiding a crash or collision.
"The workshop includes classroom sessions covering topics such as positioning and cornering, plus an escorted ride-out session with a police motorcyclist who will offer you an accurate and personalised assessment of your riding performance. I would appeal to all motorcyclists to take part in one of these workshops and help us make you an even better and safer rider."
The workshops are held at Police Headquarters at Martlesham Heath, Ipswich, and are on the following dates in 2008:
March 28th and 29th
April 11th and 12th
May 9th and10th
June 13th and 14th
July 11th and 12th
August 22nd and 23rd
September 5 th and 6th
Bikesafe is suitable for all qualified riders regardless of biking experience. The course is aimed at those wishing to add to the skills they have already acquired and improve their level of riding and general road craft.
